Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film

I’m going to have to go back and look at my history books again because I could have sworn Genghis Khan fathered like 7 million children because he slept with every single lady he ever came across. I also thought that the Mongols pillaged and raped their way across a whole continent. The film chronicles the life of Mr. Khan as he chooses his wife at nine years old until he becomes the brutal and massacre-ing king khan that we know and love. The only thing is that he doesn’t turn into that monster. The film tells a different story. One of honor and love and all those squishy feelings that I was sure Genghis never had. The film is actually very good even though it shits on what I thought Genghis Khan was like. There are some really great fight scenes in this that are sprawling as they involves hundreds of extras on horses and in full Mongol gear. The characters were well written and there was some great moral lessons thrown in there for the kiddies. Did I mention there’s a great scene in which a soldier gets his head crushed? Yeah, so, maybe not for kids. It’s a shame that a sequel fell short and we won’t get to see lovable Genghis Khan turn into full on rapist Khan but what we have in this film is a great character study with fantastic battle scenes.
